I think we need to put the characters through their paces (and through a variety of situations and emotions) before we can really select good audition lines to gain a sense of whether an actor can play the part appropriately.

Speaking for myself, I'm still figuring out a lot of who Cerena is. She has this quiet dignity and seriousness to her at times, but at other times she can be like a little girl. And I'm sure she's keeping a lid on some deeper insecurities and fears that I haven't had reason to explore yet.

I'm not convinced that having Cerena as the narrator would be the right choice. I think a detached male narrator might be a better fit.

List of their VA's demo reels. It's a bit of a hassle and some have too much music and/or comical voices, but it can be a start to figure what sort of voice one wants to have.

Rina-chan...*sigh*

I'm not getting into details, but a previous doing of hers that alienated a large percentage of users on Newgrounds forces me to completely boycott anything she's remotely involved in...

Any ideas concerning Ren's voice type already?

I remember her being an amateur VA who got hired for professional voice work. What was this incident she got involved in?

Simply put, there was some issues about a series of interviews she did about VA's. It's not worth remembering, but I still won't use any VA from VAC.

It seems unfair to boycott potentially good VAs just because they're affiliated with someone you don't like. It doesn't mean they share her views. And there aren't a lot of good, reliable VAs out there. It's not like we'd be getting Rina herself in for the audio play.

There's nothing wrong with Voice Acting Alliance, is there? I know that Jo' recruited at least some of our White Feathers VAs from there.

Many VA use both VAA and VAC anyway. Can we stay OT please.

We are staying on topic, as far as I can tell. We're discussing Ifrit's participation in the audio play and where we'll be sourcing our VAs. Hence the term 'audio play discussion'.

Good point.

*Shudders* She always uses the same voice...

If looked at just as a site to recrute VA's, then I guess there's no problem. I'd still like to entertain the idea of voicing Ren a bit myself, if only to show "how" I want him to sound.

Well, then I guess the question is can you get, or get access to, a USB condenser microphone? Though if it's just to get a sense for how he should sound, then any microphone would probably do. We'd leave the high-end equipment up to the VA who eventually ends up playing him.

@Arch - what is your character's voice description for a scouting ad?

I think Josh is the quiet kind of person: insecure, hesitant to trust other people, still struggling with his past. I imagine him having a soft, friendly voice, and I'd like him to sound like someone in his late teens/early twenties. I don't want him sounding too 'adult'. And although he has a soft voice, during battle/fights his voice would suddenly sound a lot more powerful and confident. (I hope that's not asking too much from a single voice actor?)

I'll check out those voice acting boards later today, to see if I can find any examples.

Scott Florence, Andre de Almeida and Flamzeron are a few examples how Josh could sound. They all have a relatively soft, friendly voice without sounding 'wimpy' if you know what I mean ;)

@Arch - Coolies. Thx that gives me a good idea.

Interesting to see that while they list over 100 male voices, there are barely 20 females on VAC o_0;

I was idly listening to some of the demos at VAC, and I noticed that one of them was a professional who'd want to be paid for her work. Is that the case with all of the VAs at VAC?
