So since I intend to put WF on hiatus, I'll pick up Darkling's suggestion and work with our SW RP instead.

Do you guys have ideas for the voice type of your character?

I'll voice my own character Carr'Dyth.

Darkling want use CC as Cerena?
But who's doing narration then?

We can voice our own characters? Sweet! I'll get to voice Ren afterall! This could be interesting, though. At the earliest, I might be at basic when this project gets off the ground.

Well, it depends. Do you have experience and the equipment for proper voice acting?

I guess that depends on what your demands are ;)

As for my character: I don't think I want to voice act myself anyway. I don't really have that much of an interesting voice and my English pronunciation is far from flawless.

I've listened to the previews, and they do sound pretty professional imo :)

Basically Jo' wants you to have a USB condenser microphone (or similar), and to be prepared to drape any protruding furniture in sheets to prevent any acoustic artifacts being carried across into the recording. Did I forget anything? Oh - don't blow into the mic, and don't tap your feet / rub your hands, etc.

I considered whether CC Petersen (the White Feathers narrator) might make a good Cerena, but I think Cerena's voice wouldn't be quite that low and rich. Cerena's voice would still be mellow, but it would be higher in pitch and 'thinner'.

Well, that's just the technical side, the acting is as much - if not more - important. So Darkling will tell you where your voice needs to go up and down and where you slurred words together, or consonants got lost ~q:

@Dark - Talking about draping, I had some trouble last night matching Inga's Makie lines (over the phone) for she has lots of reverberation on her takes. The more when she turns away to speak to Ikuko, or Kuri. I had to make a matching reverb for Kuri o_0;

You can find the two last scenes I want to do in the internal audio section. Damn it T.T the moment I fit together the phone call I wanted to continue on WF *cries dramatically*

The 'modest' (almost shy) way Cerena acts with Josh... I can not imagine CC's rich voice in those situations... So Yay! That keeps her free as a potential narrator ^_^

Yes, Cerena's voice needs to convey a bit more vulnerability and uncertainty. Part of her is still a freshly-promoted Jedi Knight in her early 20s. All she's experienced since that age is a life of running and hiding.

I'm thinking I'd want to keep the narration to a minimum in a TFAS audio play - certainly not as much as there is in a typical WF episode.

Carr isn't like Shiro - Carr does think to himself and say one thing while meaning another. So we could delve more into the characters' heads with internal monologue and attempt more of a 'show, don't tell' approach.

I was considering whether to have the narration told by Cerena, in a sort of pseudo-historical after-the-fact tone, but it could be confusing having her as a character in the scenes and as the narrator, unless we introduce some sort of easily identifiable 'narration music', or have the actor put on a more cultured 'narrator' voice for the narration.

While it is possible to separate the two modes acoustically, the issue I see is that narration usually knows things a character does not. So the narrating Cerena would have to know things about the others... "after-the-fact" might work, but it might also turn out to be weird.

I noticed that in games some attempt to be 'epic' by using this sort of I-tell-you-what-happened approach, but I usually didn't find them convincing. However games are different as they are not linear, nor is their production cycle: messing lots of things up.

It also puts more work load on the VA. Depending on their reliability it can be a good or bad move o_o

I think it can be done. Ever played the Max Payne games? Both games were narrated by Max himself, and imo they worked out perfectly :)

It could be, but there are also some things that Cerena could never be reasonably expected to know about, eg most of Ren's activities, so having her as narrator could be problematic, or at least tonally inconsistent.

Yes, if you want Cerena to be the narrator, the story would have to be entirely told from her perspective (telling about her impressions of Carr, Josh and Ren etc.). If she's the narrator, the audio play would be different from the actual RP.

Well, as we were saying, it would have to be an omniscient, after-the-fact narration, with Cerena discussing the events as if they had occurred a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away?).

"Of course, while I was at the repair shop with Josh and his employer, Carr was at the university investigating his suspicions of rebel activity among the students there." And so on.

So this is what we are aiming at. I recommend to listen to the downloads ^_^b

@Arch - what is your character's voice description for a scouting ad?
(looking sth like >that<)

@Dark - if you are willing to write that out I am game.
